Xaykeo was confiscated along with female Ninh by
the forestry department in Bokeo Province. Xaykeo or Xay (pronounced
“sigh”) as he’s often known is a bear with bags of character and is
easily identified as he has a small piece missing from his right ear.
When he first came to the centre he was fairly shy and nervous but has
now blossomed into a happy, fun loving, and thoroughly mischievous chap.
It seems that he is always rolling around and playing with one of the
bears but it is Keo with whom he shares a
particularly close bond. The two of them spend much of the day play
fighting, and chasing each other up and down the trees. Look for the
messy, scrappy bear covered in mud and leaves from his antics and you
can bet its Xay.
As you can see he is quite the expert climber often scrambling right
to the tip of the highest tree with Keo in hot
pursuit. Once up there he’ll either battle with Keo
for the best spot or take a quick snooze before racing back down again
to resume play.
Like all bears he has a sweet tooth but his absolute favourite foods
are the huge oranges the keepers get for him. He will often grab one and
race up the nearest tree to devour this treat safely away from the other
bears. |
