Noy was confiscated in May 2003 by the authorities in Saraburi province.
Neglected and starving when she came to the rescue centre she was very
small for her age, and so the keepers decided to call her Noy, which
means ‘small’ in Lao.
No longer small, Noy is now healthy and happy and is actually one of
the larger females at the rescue centre. She’s short and stout with a
very beautiful face, and an especially large neck ruff and paler head
which distinguish her from the rest of the group.
Fun and feisty she likes to do as she pleases, which can sometimes be
difficult for both the other bears and the keepers! When seeking
solitude she will camp herself in one of the large trees and sometimes
refuses to come down even for feeding times, making the keepers wait
until she is ready! She is truly at her happiest up in the trees and
loves nothing more than snoozing away an afternoon in her favourite
spot.
Like most bears she adores the water and can often be found lounging
neck deep in the pool. And once she’s in there she likes the pool to
herself. Any bear wanting to share with her gets a good telling off! |
