Dinh
was confiscated from Poachers by the forestry department in Bokeo
Province along with Fa and Lom.
Her name translates as ‘Earth’ in English with playmates Fa
meaning ‘Sky’ and Lom ‘Wind’. They are all still
young cubs, developing, gaining confidence and learning new skills each
day
The smallest of the three, Dinh, can be easily
identified by her V shaped crest. The crest is unique to each bear and
often used for identification purposes. She has a very fine and pretty
pencil thin marking on her chest easily seen when she stands on her hind
legs. Bears usually move around on all fours but often stand on their
hind legs to have a better look around. Dinh can often be seen doing
this but we are never sure whether she is showing off her lovely crest,
big belly or just being nosey!
She is also a very resourceful and determined
little bear as can be seen when she forages for treats around the
enclosure. All bears have a great sense of smell and will often find
food using their noses. Dinh is no exception and clearly demonstrates
this skill when she scrambles right through the centre of the woodpile
and emerges triumphantly with a green bean the others could not find!
Dinh
has also found another use for the woodpile - a back scratching post! |
