Deng
was confiscated by the forestry department in Luang Prabang province
along with his sister Kham. Deng is a lovely
cheeky chap with sparkly eyes and a real sense of mischief. If there is
any trouble you can bet he is right in the middle of it and loving every
moment! He is very good natured but will often tease the others and then
race to the other end of the enclosure and pretend he’s done nothing at
all! He’s just lucky that he is fast enough to outrun most of them!
He has lots of energy and will often wander around the enclosure
giving each bear a mischievous swipe to establish whether they are
interested in a friendly play fight. Not so bright when you consider
that one of those bears is sometimes a peacefully sleeping , very large
and occasionally grumpy Kayasin!
As you can see Deng also loves to climb and is just as at home
sitting up high as on the ground. All bears are good climbers, their
curved hook–like claws and strong slightly bowed legs enabling them to
climb with ease. Quick, agile and seemingly fearless Deng is the
master and he’s very impressive to watch. He’ll often race down to
his favourite tree after breakfast, assume a comfortable place on the
trunk and have a mid morning snooze.
Another fan of the log pile he not only enjoys searching for hidden
food within in it but also quite likes to sit on top of it! |
